How important is your health to you?
Simple question. Extremely difficult to answer. Everyone would pretty much think the obvious would be to say, "It's very important!". But is it?
When I first learned Sennin-So Shiatsu, my Shiatsu Master talked to me about things that I never knew were that detrimental to my health. Most believe sugar is bad, and junk food is bad, and alcohol is bad, but many seem to have this weird belief that they'll know when they're approaching the threshold of some kind of red alert and they'll fix themselves before it gets to a serious stage. The sad thing is that most have to go through a very dangerous and traumatic health scare to get the hint. Sometimes... they're never given a second chance.
I have slowly changed things in my diet, slowly added things, slowly eliminated things, took different philosophies and thrown away old useless ones and my body feels so much better than it used to. It took sacrifice, and there are still sacrifices that I need to make. Is it fun to know that things like pizza, lasagna, hamburgers, hotdogs, burritos, beer, wine, milk, cheese, and anything fast food is doing horrible things to my body? The same horrible things that contributed to me having a blood clot that could have killed me 2 weeks into the life of my daughter? No, it isn't fun. Definitely a part of me wishes that I didn't know those things. But then I start to think about what it would be like if I was lying on the floor because a blood clot that I didn't know was there, had dislodged from my leg and now was stuck in my heart and I was having a massive heart attack. I began to think of not being able to watch Rayven, my daughter, walk down the aisle on her wedding day, not be there when she graduates high school, not be there when she has a child of her own, not be there when Julia, my wife, needed me the most. How important does pizza look now?
All the food mentioned above has the majority of us addicted to the sugar rush it creates. That's all. How many times do you eat that type of food, only to find yourself feeling sick later, or even frustrated that you couldn't win against your weak will power? So ask yourself, "How Important is Your Health?"
Do you want to travel? Do you want to see your children grow up? Do you want to see your grandchildren be born and even graduate high school and soon after start a family of their own? Do you want to run your own business, far into your life and live off the profits of your hard work? Do you want to help people? Do you want to see the Seattle Mariners win the World Series (you might need to be alive for 100 years for that one)?
The point is, you don't know pain until you have to endure it. You don't fully know fear until you've had it run through your veins. It is easy to ignore the threat of cancer, diabetes, blood clots, obesity, or even death if you have never experienced it so closely. But why ignore it until it comes knocking. You will never live forever, but you CAN live long into your life healthy, strong, and happy. Being healthy doesn't mean you have to be unhappy with life. So many people think that being healthy means eating "horrible vegetables" and doing boring exercises and focusing on things that are boring like learning how to breathe deeply and properly. If you were to ask those same people after they were diagnosed with Cancer or Diabetes, or laying in the hospital fighting for their life because of the inability for their weak body to fight simple infections, would they be willing to go back and make some changes? I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone say no.
But that is our culture. We are surrounded by outlets of "information" that seems to convince everyone that a simple pill will be created to cure cancer. A simple pill will be created to keep you thin and happy. A simple pill will be created for EVERYTHING. It isn't going to happen. But if you like living in ignorance, then I guess I'll never be able to help you.
So I offer what I know, what I preach, what I do, my hands, my energy, my will, my technique, to help you to live long, healthy, and happy. But only if your health is important to you! Because if it isn't... do you really think I can help you?

A Mighty Thank You!
Today I received something that really does matter to me. I was talking with one of the women that I work with. She is one of our amazing hair stylists that work in the salon that houses the same area my spa is in, and she grabbed me as I was walking by and said very sternly, "You know, I hear it day in and day out by so many of my clients who have seen you, that you have absolutely helped them in ways they didn't know possible! They say you have healed them!... And I tell them, I know!". This specific hair stylist had a nasty migraine one day, and I had about 15 minutes before my next client and told her to come with me. I was able to show her very quickly why she was having the migraine (a belt accessory that was literally cutting off her blood flow around her waste) and manually got her circulation moving again. In just a few minutes, her Migraine was gone and she has had something in common with many of my clients from then on. But to hear this from her mouth, not only about what my clients have said to her but for her to be so up front and admit her feelings too about her treatment... it means the world to me.
Many might not realize how important this is to me. Sennin-So Shiatsu has become somewhat of an obsession of mine. The reason is is that I have been taught amazing things. I have been given information and abilities that can enrich the lives of many of my clients. Things that so very few people know exist and even fewer can perform. What I do for a living is very serious to me. Your health is very important to me. The one thing that is tough about what I do is that I don't hear from many of my clients initially after the 1st treatment. Sometimes I will work on someone and they loved the treatment, especially after the body had started to correct itself after I worked on it, but they wont need to come in for quite some time or never let me know. So I'm never sure if they feel better, worse, halfway in between, or anything else. This art, as effective as it is RIGHT NOW, is still very new to me, and I have absolutely no problem admitting that. I have been doing it for 3 years, while my Shiatsu Master has been doing it over 50. And he says he learns things everyday. I have had to send clients to him when situations were presented to me that I felt I couldn't fix. There haven't been many, but they have happened. So it is important for me to know that you feel better. It strengthens what I do more than you could ever know.
To have someone come up to me and say that she hears so many of my clients rave about this shiatsu and the effects after it warms my heart to the highest degree. Many in my industry put their heart and soul into their work. Truthfully we are taught not to put too much energy into it, since it can be somewhat detrimental to our health. But when it is your passion, it is very difficult not to. If you read this, whether you've seen me, or someone else, and difference has been made in your life, please, don't be afraid to let us know. This is what I do for a living and knowing you feel better and that changes are being made in a good way really makes me very happy!

One will cry, one will smile... both are healthier for it.
I have been working on two ladies as of late who are both great people. They are both dealing with similar issues, one due to a car accident and issues that were never fully addressed, the other dealing with chronic tension due to tough life stresses and life changes. Through multiple treatments, they both were seeing significant results. But sometimes, the body needs just a little bit more. And that little more that is needed is NOTHING that I can do. You must do it for yourself.
- With my first client, the one with the huge life stresses, I had mentioned to her that I believed her body was holding onto a lot of emotional and mental junk. Sometimes, when stuff gets you down and your become very stressed, your body goes through a ton subconsciously. We hold onto this junk like it means something. The problem is we generally have no clue that it is there. One way to help get rid of this problem: Cry like you've never cried before. In fact, sometimes, not often, but sometimes when I work on clients, they begin to cry... and don't know why nor can stop. It usually lasts a minute or so, but when done, they feel almost lighter, as if something was ripped out of their inner being. Crying, really crying, is an extremely efficient way the body can eliminate toxins and emotional baggage. When a loved one dies or one goes through a seriously life threatening/changing event, the body can go into a weird state of shock, almost like you've become unemotional. This is very detrimental to the body.
For example: 6 years ago, I lost my best friend due to a car accident. When I received the phone call, I had just finished with a massage client. During and after the call, I just stood there, unemotional. The drive home was unemotional. When my wife and mother met me to tell me the news (which they didn't know I already knew), again I was somewhat unemotional. You could tell that it was affecting me, but i wasn't crying and I wasn't showing a whole lot other than shock. His funeral wasn't for about a week and a half, and throughout that time I felt sick, sore, tight, unwilling to do a whole lot. Not once in that time frame did I emotionally let go. It wasn't until I was at the funeral that I just couldn't contain my emotions. It hit me like a ton of bricks and I just wept. I cried, and cried, and even though I went up to the podium and spoke about him, I cried at the end of my speech. When we put him into the ground, I was hurting so much. I just went into the car and almost let out my frustration, my anger, my sadness, and then... it was gone. My pain in my body, even my sadness for my best friend and his family. I was still saddened he was gone, but it was different than before. I came to grips of what happened, I let it go, and moved on. I always remember him, but I know deep down, that I haven't held anything in about his passing, and I am healthier for it.
My client decided to give this a try, and low and behold, the next time I saw her, she felt like a completely different person. She even mentioned that she has come to terms with things much easier after doing this. She cried for a few hours and felt refreshed. I actually couldn't believe how her body had changed.
- With my other client, I had actually used the crying scenario as an example for her, but she one upped me. She said that she felt that she just needed to be happier. The car accident was a thing of the past, coming to see me she was addressing her issues, and she needed to have a happier outlook on the things around her. So, she decided to start smiling more and stop letting little things get to her. And now she is doing much better than before. Being happy is truly the key to the fountain of youth. You can always tell who is happy compared to who isn't, even if initially they look the same. When you're sad, angry, or frustrated, you get wrinkles faster, you age faster, you get sick and stay sick much longer. When you're happy, your body's energy completely changes your body's chemistry. They have actually proven that when stressed, your own DNA changes.
I recently read an article about a man who lived to be 105 and was still alive. But he smoked cigarettes, drank beer, ate poorly and was very healthy, even at that age. Initially I was thinking, "yeah right", this goes against everything I do for a living. And then while diving into the article more and more, I came to the realization that this man was doing the one thing most important to keep his body strong, and that was to stay happy. Reading his quotes, you'd swear that he had NEVER been sad or depressed or angry. He thanked everyone around him for everything. Once I saw this, I knew why he had been able to live without diabetes, cancer, and all of the other ailments that strike our culture.
Being happy isn't as easy as it sounds, but at the same time it is. Come to terms on what is important and what is materialistic. That is the big battle right from the get go. When you can get to the point that you don't let useless things annoy you, then you're on your way to a healthy life. And don't fake being happy. Reach deep down into your soul. If you're truly happy, you'll know it and you wont have to convince yourself otherwise.
So, my friends, try these out. Sitting down and watching a movie that makes you cry every time and just letting it out can be very rewarding. I suggest "What Dreams May Come" with Robbin Williams. Since I've become a father, I can't keep from losing 5 pounds of water weight while watching that movie! Also, stay happy! Don't forget that every second you are alive is amazing and you get to experience all the world's wonders. And as bad as you think you might have it, there are 20 people within 10 miles of where you are that have it worse. And many of them have a brighter outlook on things. Don't give up, you can make it.

Shin Splints are permanent???
Recently a large amount of clients have been coming in with good ole shin splints. I was sent a man who had shin splints and was told that it would most likely be a permanent issue if he didn't stop playing tennis. After 4 months of treatments after treatments with different practitioners of all sorts, this gentleman was sent to me. For privacy purposes, I won't call him by his real name, so we'll use "Joe". Joe came into me and said that one of the front desk concierge had mentioned that our Shiatsu had a great chance at healing many different issues, including shin splints. Before I met Joe, the referring concierge associate came to me to give me the heads before the treatment was to begin. She mentioned that he really wanted just a massage and laughed at the idea that "massage" could fix his shin splints. I had to remind my associate that Sennin-So Shiatsu is as close to massage as Chiropractor is. Just because it involves hand on body contact, doesn't mean it automatically is massage.
My associate was hoping that I could live up to the referral, and I just reassured that I'd do everything in my power to prove them right. When I introduced myself to Joe, initially I could tell that he wasn't going to be an easy sell. Sometimes, not always, but sometimes, you an just tell when someone is going to be hard to convince that what I'm doing is actually not a trick. When he explained what he had been dealing with and what he tried to do to fix it, I followed it up with how I was going to attack his real problem, not just the symptom. He actually gave me a single eyebrow raise... never had that, at least not blatantly. AT LEAST, he was willing to give it a try.
So began the treatment. Instantly he was sensitive, this I expected. But thankfully he did notice how his body started to change just by working his feet. After I worked the entire body, he mentioned that he did feel different, but still didn't expect to have that much of a change. After the treatment, when I met him outside the room, he did say that he felt better, but his shin splints were still sore. This I had to explain, for many think that I mean this technique is supposed to cure everything instantly. Shin splints is a layman's term for tendinitis. IF you get the Anterior Tibialis to start to tear (Shin Splints/Tendinitis) then the symptom will occur. That muscle and its tendons DO need to heal. I mentioned this to him, and unfortunately at the time I could see an expression that resembled the "Yeah, I thought so" exaggeration. I told him, like I tell everyone, that the body will go through changes for 72 hours, and after that time, he'd notice the most difference.
Though I had given him my card, which contained my email, and the wish to email me with questions, concerns, or good news, I hadn't heard from him in 3 weeks. Then, after the 3rd week, I saw him on the books with a note that said, "ONLY WANTS TO SEE ADAM". Happy, initially, but a bit concerned... just in case he was upset. When I went to our Men's lounge to pick him up, he stood up, smiled, grabbed my hand and gave me a hug. Yup, I was shocked, since this isn't something that happens very often. Most of their time they are happy, just not this expressive. The first thing out of his mouth was, "I though you were full of @#$%!", and he didn't bleep himself out. He said that he had been playing tennis for the last 2 1/2 weeks without any pain and couldn't believe it. And not only that, but he noticed that the aching in his back was gone, something he didn't tell me about in his initial treatment.
Happy to say that it has been over 6 months now and he has competed in many tennis matches and a few tournaments without any shin splints anymore. I actually see his entire family now. Shin splints can be pretty debilitating. This is because if you ONLY address where the pain is, you're not going to get the optimal relief and you're going to have to stop exercising or playing a sport to get any kind of relief, and then when it feels better and you get back to the physical workout, it comes back. Sennin-So Shiatsu really works, and has and will continue to help many people from athletes to computer workers. If you haven't tried it yet, come on down. I'd love to meet you. And hey, if you don't want to be worked on by a man, I work with 3 women who are amazing at this as well.
Take care all. Stay Happy, Healthy, and Ready for Anything.

Here again
Hello everyone,
It has been a very busy new year for me and for some reason I have put this site on the back burner. No longer! I have been wondering what to write for a while and a client of mine suggested bringing up some stories of clients who have seen very good results. I thought that that would be a great idea and so I'll update some very successful Sennin-So Shiatsu stories every few days. I obviously can't and will not divulge names of specific clients for it is completely against the HIPPA act, but I will explain the client's issue and what was done to help and how they felt afterward.
Let's start with a client who even shocked me a bit:
An esthetician that I work with contacted me a while back and told me she was going to send me a client of hers. My associate had heard that Shiatsu is very beneficial at helping people get pregnant who seem to be unable to, especially when all medical tests show no problems in the women's body. To the date, I have helped 6 couples conceive purely by performing Sennin-So Shiatsu and helping them with their lifestyle habits.
When the young lady came to me, I saw that she had multiple symptoms that told me everything I needed to know. Initially, I noticed that she was suffering from some pretty intense acne issues on her face. To most, they believe that they are JUST hormonal or JUST do not clean their faces properly. Little do most know, that acne is where your blood is stagnant and is usually exasperated by high levels of acidity in your pH. Yes hormones and dirt play a part, but without addressing the pH of your blood, you are merely addressing the symptom, not the body's problem.
She also explained that she was suffering from constant migraines that would increase and decrease both in severity and consistency. Last but not least, low back pain was also a constant.
Now she was sent to me because she wanted to get pregnant and was told by the esthetician that I can help with that. Little did she know that I was going to rock her world about what was the true cause. I asked her how long she loved to eat cheese and wine. She hesitated for a moment and then replied, "How did you know I love those two things?" Truthfully, there are a numerous amount of things that can increase the body's acidity, so partially this was an educated guess. But usually, if I'm wrong, I'm not far off.
Everything this young lady was suffering from was due to a body that was consistently too acidic. And, in no surprise, her body was EXTREMELY sensitive to work on. I told her it would be, but I was even shocked about how sensitive she was. Thankfully for her, everything that I told her hit home. It all made sense to her and she mentioned that she had never heard of such a thing. That is something that I have become way too accustomed to.
I told her, to help her body begin to eliminate the acne on her face, decrease her migraines and back pain, and most importantly, get pregnant, she'd have to balance her alkalinity level in her body. There are a couple of ways to do that, but one of the easiest is to give up dairy and wine, two things that are extremely acidic. While I say it is easy, your body WILL fight against you. If you love cheese, it is because you are addicted to the sugar in it. "Sugar in Cheese???"... oh yeah! If you can get through the withdrawals, you'll feel amazing.
So I had mentioned to her that she needed to probably see me in a week or two, depending on how she felt. She thanked me and told me she felt like she received a ton of very useful information as well as a healthier body.
Now, a week later, I talked to the esthetician that sent her to me and she mentioned the same thing the young lady told me, that she felt she really got a lot out of the treatment. BUT... and there usually is a but... her husband thought I was a complete idiot and that I was brainwashing her. Welcome to my world. Usually, this kind of thing can be a deal breaker. For many clients, the spouse will dictate if you ever see them again, and in my case, when you perform a technique that is so rare, can be very sensitive initially, and has a philosophy that goes against almost everything you will hear about, it leaves you with very little room to be wrong or off. Thankfully there is usually massive changes in the body to prove what I do.
Well, three weeks go by and I do not see her. So, I unfortunately chalked one up for the spouse on this one. I was taught early through my training by my Shiatsu Master that you cannot help everyone. Those who come to you and trust you will be fixed. Those who don't trust you, you can't do anything to help them. This is a bit of a hard thing to swallow when you know what you have been taught really works and you know you can change so many lives.
Now with this young lady, she was so stagnant throughout the entire body, that I would swear she would need a few treatments to get her body moving like she needed it to. I also felt that if she cut back on the acidic foods, it would help significantly. But, to my surprise, 6 weeks from when I first saw her, I received a telephone call from the esthetician that originally sent her to me. She sounded very excited on the phone and truthfully wasn't sure why she called me. She simply said, "Adam, she's pregnant! After three years and many doctor visits and almost getting into in Vitro fertilization... She's Pregnant!!!"
To say honestly, I was flying high for the rest of the day. I was very shocked that her body turned the corner as quick as it did. In this art, we pride ourselves in helping people to get healthy without suggesting seeing us three times a month for the rest of their lives. It usually takes a couple of treatments and then you're going to be doing well and coming into see me for maintenance and only.
I have talked with her a few times and she is doing well, but her husband hasn't commented on his big disbelief with this art and its philosophy. As long as they are happy and ready for their little one, that is all that I ask.
In the last few years I have had this story happen multiple times. In fact, this story is extremely similar from another that happened most recently. Very similar symptoms, husband didn't believe me, only saw her once, pregnant after 5 weeks this time, and coincidentally sent to me by an esthetician. Different esthetician then the above story, but similar outcome. There is nothing in the world that makes you feel better than helping someone or multiple people in something that easily changes their lives for the better.
Take care everyone.

Back to work
It has been a while since I've posted anything. Nothing like being busy. I've done some personal experiments over the last few months. Most of the experiments have been on how quick our food and drink make our pH acidic. I did this by eating specific for a few days and twice a day checking my pH using pH strips. Some of the results that I came up with are as followed:
1) Cheese really does make the body very acidic. It seemed like melted cheese, as found with pizza for example, is almost like rocket fuel for an acidic body. Before the cheese (and after taking some baking soda) I was around 7.0 on the pH scale, which is neutral (Remember that 7.4 is normal, slightly alkaline). Three hours after eating the cheese, I went from 7.0 to 5.5 which is pretty acidic pretty fast.
2) As with Cheese, alcohol makes you very acidic as well. Beer and wine were consumed separately on different days. Beer lowered the pH to about 5.8, while wine hit 5.5.
3) I tried just eating refined flour pasta with lite tomato sauce and my pH dropped to 6.0. Was it the refined pasta or the tomato sauce? Probably a little bit of both.
4) On the positive side, I ate three oranges for lunch, and 5 hours later, my pH was 7.2. Remember, if you consume fruit alone, it digests properly and alkalizes in the small intestines, EVEN IF it is an acidic or sub-acidic fruit. You don't want to eat fruit with other food. If you do, the fruit stays in your stomach, ferments, and then becomes highly acidic. Your body coats the entire abdomen with blood to prevent ulcers and then your circulation becomes stagnant. Hello back pain!
5) And last but not least, the Arm and Hammer Baking Soda alkalized the body faster and quicker than I previously realized. I always knew it was good for your pH, I just never knew it was that fast acting. It took one hour to help my body go from a 5.5 pH to a 7.5 after consuming the 4 oz. of water with 1/2 tsp. of baking soda.
The results, like many things that I preach to my clients, are not without a massive amount of factors and you can't take these results as being 100% without flaws. It is impossible to get exact info and all you can do is try and repeat the experiments and see the outcomes, hoping for similar findings. I validated a few things for me with this and learned a few other things. Remember, if you want to help your body, a healthy pH (7.4) is the best way. In Kirkland, you can go to PCC and buy pH test strips there for around $15. It will give you approximately 160 strips. You can check it with urine or saliva, though I suggest urine since it is more accurate.
I hope everyone's thanksgiving was great. DON'T be surprised if you're feeling tension in the back or tension headaches after that meal though. The mixtures of food and high levels of acidity are going to pretty much clog your circulation in your core. Either come and get some Shiatsu or drink your baking soda... or both. Stay safe with this cold weather and appreciate life that even a wet atmosphere brings. You can't have sun without rain, balance is key, and they both have their benefits. While you can't enjoy the outdoors like you did in the summer, the rain acts well as a cleanser, and even the world needs to be cleansed once in a while!

Back Home
Well, we arrived home safe and sound from our trip to New York. It is quite humbling when you see something like New York City which is so massive and impressive. The melting pot of cultures is probably unmatched by any city in the world. As we walked the streets, rode the subways, and ate at all of the different food from the different styles of restaurants it was very apparent that the world is so much bigger than anyone really can understand. What an amazing experience that my wife and I were able to share, it will keep me in constant reminder that while I learn many things in my life's journeys, there is unquestionably more to learn just around the bend.
